CANSKATE ICE SHOW INFORMATION
posted Jan 9, 2020, 8:54 PM
Dear Canskate Parents,
You are receiving this letter because your child has been registered with Glengarry Figure Skating Club this year. Every year Glengarry holds an Ice Show. The purpose of the Ice Show is to allow skaters to showcase their skills and share their love of skating with their community. There is no cost to Canskaters.

This year the ice show will be ‘Alice’ and follows the stories from ‘Alice in Wonderland’. All Canskaters (including PreCanSkaters) are encouraged to participate as it is a fun event for all skaters. There are some mandatory dates to keep in mind that require commitment to attend:
- January 31, 2020 – sign up deadline to participate
- March 2 or 3, 2020 – 5:00-7:00 pm picture night
-your skater will need to come to McLaren Arena at the designated date and time that will be emailed to your once your child has been assigned to a group. On the picture night, you will need to register and be given the costume. They will need their helmet and skates, but will not be going onto the ice. Removal of cage of helmet for pictures is recommended. Cage should be reinstalled for ice use. They will need to stay for group and individual pictures.
- March 30- April 8th 2020 - practice
-there will be two practices on separate nights in the week and a half before the show. The dates and times will be determined shortly and sent out in an email. Practices will be held at the Okanagan Hockey School and Training Center ice (853 Eckhardt Ave West). They will need their helmet and skates and will be on ice for practices. Your skater must attend these practices in order to participate.
- April 8th, 2020 – dress rehearsal
-skaters will need to be at the South Okanagan Events Center (853 Eckhardt Ave West) from approximately 5:30 – 7:15 pm. A parent/guardian needs to remain at the arena and are encouraged to watch the dress rehearsal if they wish. Skaters will need their helmet and skates and will be on ice. Parents are NOT allowed back stage to be with their child UNLESS they are part of the volunteer backstage team. If you are anxious about your child’s ability to be left with a group of children without your assistance, please be sure to sign up as a volunteer.
- April 11, 2019- show night
-skaters will need to be there at 5:15 and can be picked up after the show. A parent/guardian needs to remain at the arena. Skaters will need their helmet and skates and will be on ice. Parents are NOT allowed back stage to be with their child UNLESS they are part of the volunteer backstage team. If you are anxious about your child’s ability to be left with a group of children without your assistance, please be sure to sign up as a volunteer.
Volunteering- parents are asked to volunteer for the Ice Show to make it a success. The show cannot happen without the support of volunteers. Parents are encouraged to go to the Glengarry Figure Skating Club website to look at available positions. Link to Volunteer sign up- Ice Show. Positions that are needed ASAP are the Dressing Room Attendants. If possible, we would like these positions filled by March 2nd so that children can be assigned to a volunteer on picture night. Things to keep in mind: the volunteer is needed for both the dress rehearsal and show night and no parent will be permitted back stage unless they are part of the volunteer team.
Sincerely,
Christine Davidson,
Glengarry Skating Club- Ice Parade Chair
