Rising STAR
Our Rising STAR program is for skaters who wish to learn to figure skate who have passed CANSkate Level 3. This program is our highest level of CANSkate and includes lessons for Levels 4-6. It is recommended that our Rising STAR skaters register for three classes each week. Figure skating is a muscle repetition/ memory sport that takes lots of time and practice. Multiple exposures each week is important for the skaters to master their skills efficiently.
It is also recommended that Rising STAR skaters plan to skate in all seasons (10 months of the year). Most experience a decline in skills when too much time is lapsed between classes.
What to wear?
HOCKEY HELMET: It is mandatory that a CSA Approved hockey helmet must be worn at all times on the ice surface for all CANSkate levels under Level 6. Level 6 skaters may waer a helmet if they wish, but it is not mandatory. Ski and bike helmets are not acceptable as they do not give the right protection. Please see Skate Canada's Helmet policy for further information. (Click here to read the policy)
Skates: Skates are the most important piece of equipment for skating. The more supportive the skates, the faster and easier it will be for a skater to learn. Strong ankle support is very important. Please ask for assistance from our coaches if you have questions about skates and sharpening.
Clothing: Tight fitting stetchy clothes that are layered are best. Gloves or mits are also recommended.
